The Spiritual Science Research Foundation invites you to a free spiritual workshop on Destiny and The Law of Karma on September 11th, 2010.

Destiny is like a ubiquitous cloud over our lives. It heavily influences the events in our lives, the decisions we make, who we spend our lives with. All major events in our life such as birth, marriage, major illnesses, accidents and death are pre-destined. As destiny is a spiritual root cause of difficulties in our life, its effects can only be nullified by spiritual practice.

Topic of discussion:

1.) What is destiny and wilful action?
2.) What is the law of Karma and how does it play out?
3.) Why we do the things we do?
4.) How does the give and take account relate to our family, friends and acquaintances?
5.) How does it relate to compatibility with couples?
6.) How does chanting work to nullify the effects of destiny and facilitate spiritual growth?

**PLEASE ENSURE TO REGISTER FOR THE EVENT ON SSRF WEBSITE FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE**

AUTUMN SHIFT FESTIVAL ON MAIN STREET
IT’S MAIN-LY AN ATTITUDE!!

The Autumn Shift Festival on Main Street will be a street party celebrating the change in seasons as well as the shift in attitude towards sustainability, eating local and an increased interest in urban gardening. Hosted by the Mount Pleasant BIA, this event takes place on Saturday, September 25th from noon until 6 pm. Main Street will be a car-free oasis from Broadway to 12th Avenue.

This free, fun, family friendly event will feature live music, improv and comedy acts, a merchant’s market, a farmer’s market, local artists, great community participation and lots of exciting activities for children.
The two live stages will showcase local musicians and performers. Science World, BC Hydro Power Smart, Mount Pleasant Community Centre, the Vancouver Public Library and the Drift Festival will make sure the kids have a great time. The Mount Pleasant BIA will offer free cotton candy and popcorn. BLIM will be back on Main Street with a market showcasing their unique brand of arts and crafts.

Want to know about sustainability and how you can live more responsibly? Visit with EcoUrbia Network, Village Vancouver and Backyard Bounty.
A gardener at heart? You will love the booths by UBC Botanical Gardens, Botanus Inc, West Coast Seeds, the Alpine Garden Club and the Vancouver Dahlia Society – a chance to try something different!
Come shift into Autumn on Main Street. Weather is chancy but so is life –have fun before the fall doldrums set in – we know how. It’s Main-ly attitude!

A carnival like atmosphere will see music, dance, food, circus, and heritage themed attractions highlighting the much anticipated Davie Day Street Festival. Four blocks of Davie Street from Burrard to Broughton Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic all day on Saturday, September 11th.

This exciting family day, named after former Premier Davie, will centre around our kick-off this year for the upcoming birthday - Vancouver 125. An impressive heritage zone will feature old-fashioned lollipops, a photographer taking turn-of-the-century pictures, The Sylvia Hotel, and lots to see and do including animals and blacksmith demonstrations in an authentic historical setting.

In the KidZone there will be circus demonstrations, and you can climb aboard an ambulance, or the fun SS Discovery. Our Doggy Zone" will round out the attractions with a guest artist, Eric Ginsburg from New York City, who will create whimsical and waggish portraits of man's best friend.

The Concert Stage will add a first class musical component to this exciting day with an eclectic mix of stunning talent from Really Rod (Is he really Rod Stewart?) who will kick off at noon. Rod will be followed by Laurel Murphy, The Rogue Messengers, Kunaka Marimba, Jessica Davidson, and Shawn Khlookoff. Returning by popular demand, the illustrious Kim Kuzma, with her band will be delighting the crowd with her soaring vocal range and sassy stage presence. Kim will end the concert solo! Be sure not to miss it!

All in all, Davie Day promises to be a thrilling and thoroughly entertaining day out for the whole family – including the dog - and it's free! Come celebrate Vancouver’s West End in the Davie Village.
Your Birdwatching Guide:

Professor George M. Chesterfield, Esquire: George is a rare species of birdwatcher characterized by brown speckling near the crown region and loose skin on the throat and nape areas. He specializes in identifying outstandingly talented performative birds. As well as being an award winning birder he is also an avian gourmet and an insufferable know-it-all.

"Birds" we will be looking for:

Crow-anna (corvus decorus vox vocis - aka Joanna Chapman-Smith): Unlike the sounds of most crows, this particular species sings beautifully. It will enchant you and rivet you with its soft and melodious voice. This crow's fame has grown to such proportions that she has traveled around the world winning awards and putting out albums - a feat almost never achieved by other birds, much less crows.

Rhyme O Rator Parrot (repeto multus - aka Estea El): Watch out what you say around this bird. Your words may be taken, added onto, twisted and transformed into hopping hyperboles, maniacal machinations, spinning satires and other such word manipulations.

Red Breasted Flapper (falco gingerius - aka Hybrid Movement): Red Breasted Flappers are a species of birds that can often be seen doing crazy acrobatics quite reminiscent of Le Parkour, martial arts, gymnastics, free-running, tricking, action/fight choreography and dance. Discovered by scientists in 2005, it is always a treat to watch their antics.

Juggling Raven (corvus crystalis praestigiae - aka Chris Murdoch): Its vast territory covering Australia and Canada, this bird's mystifying, powerful and inspiring ability to manipulate crystal balls and fire staffs have made it a favorite of bird watchers the world over.

Beauty-throated Songbird (cantoris opulentus- aka Christina Lewall): This bird has the widest range of notes of all the birds so far discovered by humans. Although greatly sought out for its beautiful and surprisingly powerful voice, few people have actually found and heard this bird. Legend has it that once you have heard the cantoris opulentus, you will wake up every night in the middle of the night for the rest of your life with its song whirling through your mind.

For more information on what these birds do in real life, go to http://www.inthehousefestival.com

Bubble Bash is an opportunity to turn an area of your city into a wondrous playground of fun, and more importantly, it's your opportunity to remember what it was like to be a kid and find joy in simple things.

We'll be gathering on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery (facing Howe St.) and letting loose with a blast of bubbles! This tiny section of the bustling downtown core of Vancouver will temporarily be overrun with the ...glee that thousands of bubbles can create - not to mention the thousands of bubbles themselves! Bring your bubble machines, bubble guns, assorted bubble blowers, and bubble solution and help create something magical.

The city we live is also the city we play in, so lets get busy playing.

Everything you need to know:

What: Blowing bubbles in downtown Vancouver
When: Sunday, August 8, 3pm
Where: The steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery, on Howe St between Robson and Georgia
Who: Everyone! Young, old, and everywhere in between. Anyone who loves bubbles (or just likes bubbles as a friend) are welcome!
Cost: Free!
RSVP: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid...6929954085

A few more things you should know:

- Bring your own bubble supplies if you can! I will have a few extra bubble blowers, but probably not enough to equip everyone.
- Bubble machines/bubble guns/bubble blowers are available at Toys R Us, Canadian Tire, Zellers, Wal-Mart, and various toy shops throughout the city.
- Please be respectful of your environment! Do not create a mess and leave it for others to clean up, and if you borrow someone's equipment, make sure you return it in good shape.
- Pass this message on! In order for this to work, people need to show up. The only way for that to happen is if you tell them what we're doing. Even if you can't make it yourself, please spread the word!
- This event is inspired by the fabulous Bubble Battles put on by newmindspace in Toronto, which are in turn (loosely) inspired by the Dr Seuss book "The Butter Battle Book".
