Christmas Tree Recycling
Date: December 26 - January 2, 2010
Time: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
Cost: Free (suggested donation $5)
Location: UBC Botanical Garden, 6804 SW Marine Dr, Vancouver, BC

Beginning this year, all donations raised through the UBC Botanical Garden's Christmas tree recycling program will be directed to support educational projects at local schools. This year we are supporting the development of a heritage food garden for SPG Childcare / Quilchena Elementary. Gardens provide children with hands-on learning opportunities, and nurture an understanding and respect for the environment, food, health and the cycles of life.

Be sustainable and drop off your Christmas tree to be chipped into mulch that will be used on UBC Botanical Garden trails. Please remove all decorations, tree stands, lights and tinsel. Christmas trees only please (no yard trimmings, as potential invasive plants can harm the Garden). Submit your donations in the drop box when you drop off your tree.

RE: Christmas Tree Recycling
I love this time of year. Out with the old and in with the new. Of course we should recycle all that old and try to be socially responsible about how much new comes in. But you get the idea.

RE: Christmas Tree Recycling
Removing the tree: The best way to avoid a mess removing your tree is to place a plastic tree bag (which are available at hardware stores) underneath the stand when you set the tree up! You can hide it with a tree skirt. Then, when the holidays are done, pull the bag up around the tree, stand and all, and carry it outside. Obviously, you will want to remove the stand before recycling the tree. If some needles do scatter inside, it is better to sweep them up; as needles can clog vacuum cleaners.
