Ukulele Unleashed
Ukulele Unleashed
"A few chords strummed on a ukulele, enough to please a few others beside yourself, does more good in this world than the combined efforts of all the financiers and politicians that ever lived." - Frank Littig From Vaudeville to Folk to Hawaiian ballads, let your ears bathe in the sweet sounds of the ukulele. Come check out the versatility of this funky little instrument in this once in a lifetime showcase. Date: March 5th, 2010 Time: Doors at 6:15 pm Show at 7:00 pm Where: 3238 Fleming St. Tickets: 18$ Adults 13$ kids + members Tickets and detailed information about the performers are available on-line at http://www.inthehousefestival.com Ralph Shaw: With virtuosity, vitality and a true generosity of performance, Ralph Shaw proves again and again that he is worthy of the title "Variety Entertainer Extraordinaire." Bringing to you the true spirit of early 20th century Music Hall showmanship, he sings with the voice of a seasoned chanteur. Backed up by his stellar Ukulele playing he croons, dances, plays harmonica, yodels and whistles like a state fair champion. Let him take you on a journey into the past that manages to be both nostalgic and contemporary. One minute you will be transported back to the days of vaudeville where you'll hear Fred Astaire, The Inkspots, George Formby and Ukulele Ike and the next moment you'll be entranced by one of his hilarious and soul stirring original songs that evoke beautiful feelings of a bygone era that has been reborn. Les Mains D'Isabelle: After being involved as the music director for the first production of the Church of Pointless Consumerism about 3 years ago, Myriam Parent started the band The Tuesday's Bitches with 2 friends and had a great deal of fun and her first experiences on stage. Around the same time, she fell helplessly in love with the ukulele and started working on her solo project: Les Mains d'Isabelle. Her first album, Urgence, is on its way, to her great joy. Langley Ukulele Ensemble: The Langley Ukulele Ensemble is in its 28th year under the direction of Peter Luongo. The ensemble members range in age from 13 to 20 years. Performing as many as 80 concerts per year, they have traveled through out Canada and the U.S., as well as to Japan during the summer of 2004. The group's motto is Enriching Lives Through Music. The members of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble strive towards excellence in musical performance and to use music as a vehicle through which they can be role models and leaders amongst their peers. They hope to leave audiences with a sense that there is reason to be hopeful about the future of today's youth.
