plaything is a vividly imaginative new solo dance piece created and performed by MACHiNENOiSY’s Co-Artistic Director, Delia Brett in collaboration with puppeteer Tamara Unroe, animator Jay White, painter/scenographer Jordan Bent and composer Chris Kelly

Inspired by the contrasts of motherhood and violent child’s play, the work employs MACHiNENOiSY’s multilayered approach to performance to create a dream-like world where beauty emerges from the mundane and the subversive topples the sublime.

MACHiNENOiSY is a contemporary dance company that fosters the research and creation of performances, which transcend traditional notions of dance and theatre. The company strives to interact with other artistic mediums and the international dance community.

MACHiNENOiSY creates a kinetic bridge to ideas and issues relevant to contemporary society. The company sees dance as an art form capable of merging the spiritual with the theatrical, the sensual with the conceptual. MACHiNENOiSY consciously assimilates pop culture, ‘high’ literature, and political ideas into their work. Their movement style and trademark partnering innovation is a direct reflection of their years of investigation in the techniques of contact improvisation. The poetic muscularity of the choreography often incorporates text—found or written, spoken or sung. Above all, MACHiNENOiSY is dedicated to creating work that possesses physical and emotional clarity.
